An expert on gut health, mindset and overall well being, her cook books as well as products take a simple, nourishing approach to obtaining maximum positive well-being, making cooking nutritious meals simple!

What does your morning routine look like? What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?

Morning rituals are an amazing tool to set up the day the right way. The first thing I do in the A.M. is say good morning to my lovely hubby Justin. Then I head to the kitchen (of course) and have a glass of warm water with my Love Your Gut powder. After this, I head out the door for my morning walk. I usually walk for about 90 minutes – no phone, no friends, no work, no emails! Just me and my walking shoes. 

How has taking processed foods out of your diet changed your overall health? Do you have any key tips to simplify this process for people seeking to do the same?

Generally, our society has become reliant on processed foods filled with artificial preservatives and sugars. Companies like to label products as ‘healthy’ because they’re low in calories, but still full of unnatural ingredients, additives and extremely high amounts of sodium. These build up in our body and can seriously cause havoc on our insides.

Real, whole foods nourish our bodies and make us feel so much better! When you get rid of all the processed junk and sugars, you can really feel the difference. I know I have way more energy, think clearer, experience less lethargy and feel better when I eat real foods. My food philosophy is simple: eating whole foods and eating in moderation. I prepare yummy recipes which are gluten, wheat, dairy, yeast and sugar free.

Also, a little chocolate now and then never hurt no one! Healthy doesn’t mean deprivation. 


Gut health awareness is an ever growing topic to not only the health industry, but across all platforms. What made you create your Heal Your Gut Program? What are the benefits of focusing on gut health?

The gut is the gateway to health. By looking after our gut health, we can absorb nutrients better, digest properly and regulate the toxins that we ingest. The gut is also strongly connected to the immune system and to our brain. This means an unhappy gut can lead to all types of diseases and conditions like inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome, colds, eczema and even depression.

After my own experience of health issues, I realised how hard it can be to try find helpful information and research to guide healing processes. When I was healing myself, there wasn’t a lot of information I could easily draw from. Everything was conflicting and confusing! I created the Heal Your Gut program to help eliminate this confusion! I wanted to help people learn the importance of gut health and heal themselves – one slow-cooked soup at a time.

What are your top tips for changing perspective around health, from taking the key away from weight loss to overall optimal health

There’s so much more to being healthy than what you look like. True health and wellness comes from within. While it’s important to stay fit for our overall wellbeing, healthy doesn’t necessarily mean a six-pack of abs and shredded arms. We need to nourish our bodies with good quality food, spend time with people who matter and move our bodies. The rest is just a bonus. 

Time seems to be a big issue for limiting people to obtaining a healthy eating balance, how do you ensure to find time to nourish yourself both mentally, nourishingly and physically? 

Okay, if we’re speaking about this practically, I have a few things that I do to keep myself nourished on all levels!

I always recommend batch cooking. Not everyone has time to cook a gourmet meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I like to make meals on a Sunday and organise everything for the week. Even if I don’t make everything for the week ahead, I like to plan my meals so I’m not walking around aimlessly in the grocery store and picking everything that catches my eye. 

On an emotional and physical level, implementing my morning walk was the best thing I’ve done. My walks are my time to think, breathe and just be. It’s also great to get the body moving in the morning and start the day off on the right foot (or left…). 

Spend time with special people who are important to you and don’t worry about the rest! Having proper conversations and relationships is so good for your soul. Nourish the relationships that make you laugh till you cry and feel that you can share your true self with.
